Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Taiwan’s Restoration
Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Taiwan’s Restoration
2025Eighty years ago, at the end of the Second World War, after fourteen years of arduous struggle, the Chinese people achieved a great victory in the global fight against fascism. Taiwan ended fifty years of colonial rule and returned to the embrace of the motherland. This historic moment symbolized the restoration of national dignity and sovereignty and became a milestone on the path toward unity and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Here in Canada, we deeply honour the generations who sacrificed for national independence and world peace. The restoration of Taiwan was not only a triumph for the Chinese people but also a significant outcome of the global victory over fascism, demonstrating that justice overcomes aggression and that unity triumphs over division.
In today’s diverse and peaceful Canadian society, we cherish the core values of freedom, fairness, respect, inclusiveness, and the rule of law. Canada’s own history teaches us that unity brings strength, while division brings uncertainty and loss. The 1994 Quebec referendum reminds us that no matter the differences in language, culture, or region, a nation’s cohesion and shared identity are the true foundation of lasting peace and prosperity.
We firmly believe that the realization of complete national reunification is an inevitable course of history and an essential part of national rejuvenation. We sincerely hope that people across the Taiwan Strait will continue to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen emotional bonds, and work hand in hand toward the early realization of full national unity—for the benefit of future generations.
Chinese Community Association of Ottawa will continue to uphold the principles of peace, unity, and development; to promote Chinese cultural heritage while embracing Canada’s cherished values of inclusiveness and diversity; to foster friendship between Canada and China; and to contribute to social harmony.
Remember history, cherish peace; stay united and create a shared future.
